A historical and cultural Building

Ferdinando Stimamiglio had the idea of creating a station to serve the commercial and tourist traffic going through the National Road n. 11 (called "Padana Superiore”) in 1946; in 1949 the idea became real with the opening of the Via Venezia wing: apartments, a car repair shop and an industrial vehicles trade company (OM) were the first businesses.
The opening of the hotel in 1950 and of the cinema, scope style of course, in 1954, became for the inhabitants of Padova a place for enjoyment and festivities; its terraces (see the two pictures) could host more than 400 people and the best orchestras gave rhythm to the hotel’s dancing parties.

At first the part of the complex used as a hotel was smaller than the residential part (30 rooms compared to 100 small flats). Later the residence turned over rooms to the growing Hotel, which has now 92 rooms. In 1989 the Hotel reached (with the new classification) Four Stars, a category the management tends to maintain and at the same time improve every day.

The "Stanga" square facing the Best Western Hotel Biri took its name from the old Customs office, based here, which used to check the goods entering the city.
The name BI.RI. is the result of the combination of the two initial syllables Birreria (Beer Pub) and Ristorante (restaurant). The Italian creativity in the 50s hadn’t yet been roped by the fascination for the Anglo-Saxon words.
